Our school proudly bears the name of Macario García, named after a true American hero and role model. Born in Mexico and raised in Texas, García served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1944, despite being wounded, he bravely destroyed two enemy machine-gun nests in Germany, an act that earned him the Medal of Honor, the first ever awarded to a Mexican immigrant.
After the war, García faced discrimination but stood up for his rights, becoming a symbol of courage both in combat and in civilian life. He later became a U.S. citizen, earned his diploma, and worked for many years helping fellow veterans. We honor his legacy of bravery, perseverance, and service to others by proudly carrying his name.
